Set Your Scene
Every great improv scene starts with a setting. Choose where and when your story takes place. The more specific you are, the richer your scene will be.
π Example Settings
- A busy coffee shop on a rainy Monday morning
- A spaceship bridge moments before first contact with aliens
- A medieval tavern where rumors of dragon sightings spread
- A high school reunion 20 years after graduation
- A detective's office in 1940s Los Angeles
Pro Tip
Include sensory details! "A cramped submarine during a storm" creates more tension than just "a submarine."
Create Your Characters
Define who you'll play and who the AI will embody. Give your characters personality traits, motivations, and relationships to each other.
π Character Elements
- Role/Occupation: What do they do? (Doctor, pirate, nervous intern)
- Personality: How do they act? (Confident, shy, sarcastic, optimistic)
- Want: What do they desire in this scene? (To confess love, to hide a secret, to make a sale)
- Relationship: How do the characters know each other? (Strangers, rivals, old friends)
Pro Tip
Characters with conflicting goals create the most interesting scenes. If one wants to stay and one wants to leaveβinstant drama!
Start Improvising
Begin your scene with dialogue, action, or both. The AI will respond in character, and together you'll create an unscripted story.
π¬ Ways to Start
- With dialogue: "I never thought I'd see you here."
- With action: *nervously adjusts tie and approaches the podium*
- With both: *slides a mysterious envelope across the table* "Don't open this until midnight."
Pro Tip
Remember the golden rule of improv: "Yes, And." Accept what your scene partner offers and build upon it!
Keep the Scene Alive
Great scenes evolve. Raise the stakes, reveal secrets, introduce complications. The AI will match your energy and keep the story moving.
β‘ Scene Escalation Techniques
- Raise stakes: "If we don't solve this in 10 minutes, the whole city..."
- Reveal information: "There's something I never told you about that night."
- Introduce obstacles: *the lights suddenly go out*
- Emotional shifts: Move from humor to sincerity, or calm to panic
Pro Tip
Don't be afraid to make bold choices. The unexpected moments are often the most memorable!
